十三代目 市川團十郎白猿

Ichikawa Danjuro XIII Hakuen

Born in Tokyo in 1977 as the eldest son of Danjuro Ichikawa XII, he made his debut in May 1983 as Harumiya in “The Tale of Genji” at the Kabuki-za Theater. In May 2004, he assumed the name Ichikawa Ebizo XI.

In 2013, he launched his own performance company, ABKAI, and has created a series of new productions, including “Roppongi Kabuki,” which began in 2015.

In 2004, he performed the name-overture of Ebizo XI at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, as well as in London, Amsterdam, Monaco, Rome, Singapore, UAE, and New York, all of which have become the talk of the town.

Since 2015, he has served as a member of the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee's Culture and Education Committee, and performed at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021.

In November 2022, he assumed the title of Ichikawa Danjuro XIII Hakuen at the Kabuki-za with Musashibo Benkei in “Kanjincho” and Hanakawado Sukeroku in “Sukeroku Yukari no Edozakura”, and Odate Samagoro in “Kyo kanoko Musume Ninin Dojoji” in December.

He received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize for New Artist in 2001 and the Chevalier de la Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France in 2007.

Shinnosuke Ichikawa VIII

Born in Tokyo on March 22, 2013 as the eldest son of Ichikawa Danjuro XIII, Hakuen.

He made his first appearance in “Edo Hananarita no Omokage” at the Kabuki-za in November 2015.

White Fox in ”Daemon Hana no Goshoibun” at Kabuki-za in July 2017; “Samboshi in Sangoku Muso Hisago no Medetaya” at Kabuki-za in July 2018; Hikaru no Kimi in “The Tale of Genji”, Crown prince; Nagamatsu in “Kiwametsuki Banzui Choubei” at Shinbashi Enbujo in January 2019; Tobigashira in “Natorigusa Hana no Juichidai”, Kikanbo in “Uirouri” at Kabuki-za in July of the same year, Ushiwakamaru in “Hashi Benkei” at Shinbashi Enbujo in January 2021, Tarokichi in “Sanemori Monogatari” at Meijiza in May and at Minamiza in June same year, and Ichimatsu in “Natsu Matsuri Naniwa Kagami” and the male butterfly spirit in “Setsugetsuka Mitsu no nagame” at Kabuki-za in July 2022, He is taking on major roles one after another.

In November 2022, he made his stage debut under the name Shinnosuke Ichikawa VIII as Soga Goro in “Uirouri” at the Kabuki-za. In December of the same year, he became the youngest actor ever to play the leading role of Danjo Kumedera in “Kenuki” at the Kabuki-za and won the hearts of the audience.

Off the stage, he became the talk of the town when he dubbed the role of the prince in “The Pharaoh, the Savage and the Princess” the latest film by Michel Ocelot, one of the leading animation directors of modern France, which released in July 2023.

■Access■

●By train… From Imabari Station on the JR Yosan Line, take the Setouchi Bus bound for Imabari Office, and get off at the Imabarijo-mae bus stop (approx. 9 min.). Approximately 20 minutes walk from “Imabari Station” (about 1.5 km)

●By Car…Setouchi-Shimanami Kaido (Nishi-Seto Expressway): approx. 15 min. from “Imabarikita IC” Matsuyama Expressway → Imabari Komatsu Expressway “Imabari Yunoura IC”, about 20 min.

●By Hiway Bus…From "Fukuyama Station" of Sanyo Shinkansen Line, take "Shimanami Liner" highway bus for about 1.5 hours and get off at "Imabari Sanbashi". 10 minutes walk from "Imabari Sanbashi" to Imabari Castle (about 750m).

 

■Notes■

*Please note that Setouchi Bus bound for "Imabari Station" ⇔ "Imabari Office" and the highway bus bound for Fukuyama Station have no service after the end of the show.

*Parking lot of “Imabari Castle” (fee required) is limited, so please park at “Imabari Port Temporary Car Park” (free of charge) . It is a 10-minute walk to the venue.

*This event will be held rain or shine and cancelled in case of inclement weather. The performance status in the event of rain will be announced on this website as needed.

*Tickets cannot be cancelled, changed, or refunded unless the performance is cancelled.

*Please bring your own warm clothes and raincoat, etc., as the performance will be held outdoors. Please refrain from using umbrellas in the auditorium.

*No video recording, audio recording, or photography is allowed during the performance.

*There are no lockers or checkrooms in the venue.

*Imabari Castle museum is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (last admission at 4:30 p.m.), admission tickets are required.
